@saeed: It's good to make you laugh Saeed :) @Hans: :) @isabel: Hope you still think so Isabel ;) lol @Saeed: Thanks a lot Saeed ;) Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaPeter has inspired some pretty fantastic work here. Great one Lorraine. 2 Jun 2008 7:20am @Marion: Bet this throws you for a loop dear Marion, it's not you, it's me lol @Alun Lambert: Thanks a lot Alun :) Ian Bramham from Manchester, United Kingdom...and your photo has a very engaging simplicity too Lorraine like all the best photos! 2 Jun 2008 8:11am @Ian Bramham: That's a beautiful compliment Ian, thank you :) tyan from Singapore, Singaporelove the way you captured him sititng in a corner. Its a hot day eh?!:) 2 Jun 2008 8:41am @tyan: Not quite hot, but comfortable lol thanks sweetie ;) Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South AfricaGREAT shot Lorraine - he looks so real, I feel like I could reach out and touch him! 2 Jun 2008 9:30am @Mandy Provan: He'll probably growl but deep down he's decent ;) Betty from New Jersey, United StatesLorraine, your candid shots are amazing! Excellent. 2 Jun 2008 9:45am @Betty: Thanks so much Betty, I really appreciate that :) António Pires from Lisbon, PortugalThe composition is all but candid. The man is sitting at one corner of the image, leaving almost two empty tables and a couple of empty chairs on the left. So the suggestion that he is alone in the shop, and in life, who knows, is perfect. It reminds me of a similar composition of a painting by Dégas. 2 Jun 2008 10:04am @António Pires: Wow what a lovely compliment Antonio, thanks so much :) @Ana Lúcia: Thanks Ana :) Ina from Krugersdorp, South AfricaI wonder if his budget worked out? Excellent shot! 2 Jun 2008 10:19am @Ina: LOL good eye, I was thinking crossword puzzle ;) saeed from ahwaz, IranHey Lorraine?!?!? you change your shot!!? ok,so i change my comment!!! ;) hahaha !!! :D 2 Jun 2008 10:26am @saeed: LOL how did you know Saeed? I'm so glad you changed your comment lol thanks a lot! @Ekaputra Tupamahu: Glad you enjoyed ET thanks a lot :) Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United StatesGood old Tim Horton's ... and how beautifully you've composed this shot, Lorraine. 2 Jun 2008 10:44am @Judy: lol remember: I croak, I guess I could sing: 'Give me a simple life, i need a simple Life' from Valdy without destroying any body's eardrum ;) Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesGood. This is really good. So very much a shot of the human condition. It could be called "Monday Morning" for a lot of us,; alone and into our own thoughts -- it's how we all sometimes feel. 2 Jun 2008 10:55am @Viewfinder: Thanks so much Vf, I appreciate it, if you would like to see an even more accurate 'monday' morning, check out Wednesday ;) Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaYour image makes me wonder about the old man. I like the simple composition and excellent detail, Lorraine. 2 Jun 2008 11:36am @Michael Skorulski: Thanks so much Michael, I always enjoy your comment :) laughingwolf from Canada"now, if i have these right, the lotto jackpot is MINE!" ...and more timmy coffee, too ;) lol 2 Jun 2008 12:23pm @laughingwolf: it could very well be lol thanks Wolf :) @Daroru: Thanks a lot Daroru :) Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanSomebody mentioned here "human condition" and I think it might be a good title! I don't know why......but this shot doesn't make me smile! Life is NEVER simple! 2 Jun 2008 12:33pm @Japanalia: So true and when one attains it, one soon tires of it, we are a complex humanity...aren't we? I think that there is an inherent craving in all of use for what we forget is our real Home...so nothing, nothing is ever satisfying for long...and I'm moody lol Guillermina from Buenos Aires, ArgentinaYou know what strikes me? That strange combination of the public and the private... 2 Jun 2008 12:56pm @Guillermina: oh good I'm not the only strange one lol ;) thank you so much G. Koushiro~光子郎 from Singapore, SingaporeNice simple and casual shot there! Seems as though he's doing a puzzle of some sort, too engrossed to notice you there ^^ Great shot! Oh by the way, I finally have a few nice subjects to photograph too! 2 Jun 2008 2:28pm @Koushiro~光子郎: Hi Koushiro, yep that's what I thought too lol I'll check your site out soon :) JoeB from Brampton, CanadaA local Tim Horton's, might be doing his lottery tickets, I'm amazed they let him hang around. 2 Jun 2008 2:49pm @JoeB: maybe...why are you amazed Joe, Tim Horton's full of people who stay sometimes half-day, some sleep there ;) Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaPerhaps he's writing a letter to his loved one. His extra cup is probably filled too and he is ready to start his day. Excellent composition Lorraine. You are one brave photographer taking these pictures when your subjects are so unaware. Sure makes for some interesting pictures. I would love to see your "street" pictures bound and in a book. Good eye girl. 2 Jun 2008 2:54pm @Marion: That is so lovely, I adore taking photos of people but unaware, that's why I try as best as I can to get them at a certain angle so that they keep their privacy, but sometimes it's too hard to resist...and WOW what a beautiful comment you left me, thanks so much!!! Usually if they're close enough I'll take a photo then ask them if they mind, if they say yes, then I advise them that I have an international photo blog...they usually get a kick out of that...occasionally though I'm asked to delete it and I do in their presence...some people can get a little unpleasant but I try to scope a mood, before I venture ;) vu@granby - Gilles Martineau from Granby, Québec, CanadaExcellente saisie qui nous fait pénétrer dans l'intimité de cet homme, bravo Lorraine! 2 Jun 2008 3:08pm @vu@granby - Gilles Martineau: Merci beaucoup Gilles, je t'assure que lui il ne s'en fait pas (j'ai deja pris de photos de lui auparavant :) Janice Thomson from CanadaIt's the solitariness that strikes me first - in the corner, out of sight so to speak - hat pulled low - a leave-me-alone-I'm-minding-my-own-business. Excellent capture that evokes a lot of emotions. 2 Jun 2008 3:25pm @Janice Thomson: Lovely comment, thanks so much Janice :) yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greecewonderful image - I like the moment you captured and the lighting very much 2 Jun 2008 3:57pm @yiannis krikis: I appreciate that Yiannis, thank you ;) Meve from Montréal, CanadaTrès belle image! J'aime que l'homme se cache derrière son chapeau. La composition est bien, mais j'aime surtout les couleurs! 2 Jun 2008 4:28pm @Meve: Merci beaucoup Meve, c'est gentil :) Scotfot from Kabul, AfghanistanA very thoughtful image - the subject full of thoughts and very thoughtfully taken. 2 Jun 2008 4:36pm @Scotfot: Thanks a lot Bob, I appreciate the visit :) Stunner from Kingston, JamaicaGreat composition Lorraine! it was a really good idea to place the man in the corner of the shot. 2 Jun 2008 4:52pm @Stunner: Thanks so much STunner, I didn't really put him in a corner, he was three already ;) MJ from Delaware, United Statesgreat shot it reminds me of the pictures of Norman Rockwell everyday life.... and you captured it so well. 2 Jun 2008 5:10pm @MJ: great compliment mj thanks so much :) Illuci from Hurdegaryp, NetherlandsThis is just an awesome shot, makes me think of Toulouse Lautrec. The tables an chairs make a fine rythm, like the order the man tries to create with his pencil. Magnificent! (I think it would do also good in B&W or sepia). 2 Jun 2008 5:57pm @Illuci: Thanks a lot Erik, i appreciate it, yes I thought B&W too, but some reason I left it the way it was :) standley from brou-sur-chantereine, FranceUn grand moment de solitude. I could have sworn that you had a CD cover when I managed a peek this morning, before the new computer froze for the umteenth time :( 2 Jun 2008 10:38pm @MaryB: Hey MaryB, I did, I had, but I just wasn't into it, and I changed the photo LOL, no it's not your computer's fault ;) Betsy Barron from Glenmoore, United StatesNice capture..I'm ascribing all sorts of attributes to this man.. wondering what he's doing.. what he's planning? Where he's going next?! 3 Jun 2008 12:05am @Betsy Barron: I like that, thanks a lot BetsyB. ;) @amy: Thanks so much sweetie ;) JoeB from Brampton, CanadaMaybe the Tim's differ from region to region, but around here they don't want people hanging out. You'll never see a newspaper they magically disappear. There was one incident where a worker gave a timbit to a crying child, she was fired. She was rehired only after the story appeared in the newspapers. 3 Jun 2008 1:29pm @JoeB: Geeze that's not really nice, I remember that story...it is very different here, Thank God! thanks for the follow-up :) Jean-Benoît Maréchal from Dinant, BelgiumSuperbe scène de vie ! C'est à nouveau bien équilibré, les lignes de force mènent le regard vers l'homme dans le coin. Son visage caché crée un certain anonymat. A voir aussi en n&b ! ;-) 3 Jun 2008 2:40pm @Jean-Benoît Maréchal: Quel beau commentaire, merci beaucoup Jean-Benoit :) Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaI love it (except couldn't he find better coffee than Tim's?). The composition really has him in a strong position. 4 Jun 2008 5:16am @Michael Rawluk: lol thanks Michael, what' wrong with Tim's H.'s coffee...is there better? I'm limited in my choices ;) [terrorkitten] from Bath, United KingdomLove the colours here and i have to say your people shots are coming on in leaps and bounds. Why has he got his hat on indoors? 4 Jun 2008 10:11pm @[terrorkitten]: Trying to hide from me, of course ;) dillonpic from United Statesi like the atmosphere here for some reason. reminds me of getting breakfast on a sunday morning. 6 Jun 2008 8:55pm @dillonpic: Thanks Dillon lol you're not too far off.... @Sandrine: Thanks a lot Sandrine, i appreciate it :) Vink from Magagnosc, FranceJ'aime beaucoup cette scène de vie tout en simplicité. 19 Jun 2008 8:07am @Vink: Merci Vink, c'est gentil :) Andrew Gould from Sydney, AustraliaThis is beautifully caught, Lorraine. I love the pose and the muted colours. The exposure's spot on, too. (I recognise those serviette holders. I guess that's globalisation for you!) 10 Jul 2008 6:09am @Andrew Gould: Thanks so much Andrew and yes serviette holders are IN lol, marketing probably studied this and thought it would make people feel welcome no matter where they're at, or probably not, it's probably cheap ;) |
