The first word is "Brise" presumably? It's about 30 years since I've written anything in French and I certainly have no idea about where to find the French acute and grave accents on my UK keyboard :-).....I was imagining how upset you'd have been if this had been the coffee machine that was 'brise' but coffee's much better from a proper cafe with the right machines isn't it. Lovely shot Lorraine!

I'd surmise he is broken in some way( be it jail or army)like the machine - an intriguing study Lorraine. You do have an eye to capture moments like this.
